Summary/Abstract: The match played on September 25, 1927 in Katowice between the local team 1. FC Kattowitz and the Cracovian Wisła went far beyond the framework of the sporting event. Both the footballers and fans, exceptionally numerous that day, were aware of the fact. And, undoubtedly, the authorities as well – both local, headed by the governor Michal Grażyński, and those from Warsaw. The stake was not insignificant; the team representing the German minority in the Silesian province, openly referring to the Prussian heritage, almost won the Polish Championship.
