Summary/Abstract: The following article is an attempt to present the meaning of blood in the ancient world. Tothis end, it discusses the importance of blood in the tradition, religion and rituals. Further, the article establishes the role of blood in connection with the Underworld and ghosts, and scrutinizes fears and beliefs in which blood plays a part. The conclusions are drawn on the basis of the ancient rituals and the works by ancient writers.
