Summary/Abstract: The indicators of sustainable development, which show the level of environmental, social and economic phenomena, might be used to assess the condition of a commune. The objective of the paper is to show the influence of the location communes in the protected areas of dolnośląskie province. The hierarchic classification of communes in dolnośląskie voivodeship was applied with the use of indicators of sustainable development. The results obtained from application of hierarchic classification of communes located within protected areas show that the seare not always the worst communes in implementation of the concept of sustainable development in comparison with communes located outside researched areas.
