Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to analyze and interpret the affinities between Sándor Márai’s novel Béke Ithakában and Homers’ Odyssey. The analysis focuses on the figure of Odysseus and the differences between the portrayal of the legendary hero in these two works. The study argues that Márai not only refers to Antiquity, but makes a creative use of classical motifs to show the contemporary man.
