Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to determine the extent of diffusion of breakthrough knowledge (inventions) coming from FDI located in Poland among Polish enterprises. An analysis of patent documents of enterprises with regard to the sources of cited knowledge enabled us to conclude that FDI located in Poland do not play a key role in increasing breakthrough innovations of Polish enterprises. Only 8.38% of inventions generated in multinationals having subsidiaries in Poland are the basis for inventions of Polish enterprises. Moreover, larger FDI inflows to Poland are not accompanied by inventions of Polish enterprises being more based on innovations coming from multinationals.
