Summary/Abstract: The favourable natural setting, the varied topography, the soil cover, the richness of vegetal species, the well-developed river system etc., correlated with the existence of extensive pastures and hayfields (Romania has the largest area of pastures and hayfields in Europe) have encouraged the development in the Rucăr-Bran Corridor of a pastoral civilization, which oscillated between subsistence occupation and intensive occupation.
