Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to identify the most important trends in contemporary innovation policy. The article discusses a conceptual approach to innovation policy and complements it with a detailed comparative analysis of the objectives and instruments of innovation policy in countries that are innovation leaders in the global economy, namely Finland, the United States and South Korea. The results of this analysis show that these countries strive towards a modern, holistic approach to innovation policy, which integrates a variety of factors that together influence the development of new products and new processes. The primary objective of such an innovation policy mix is to resolve economic and social problems through systemic innovations. In policy practice, policy instruments are designed to address major problems in the functioning of the national innovation system.
