Verb description in plWordNet 2.0 – theoretical and methodological issues

Summary/Abstract: The article outlines the main theoretical and methodological problems which occur while designing a description of the class of verbs in the plWordNet 2.0. In the first part of the paper, the authors present the definition and the structure of plWordNet, including semantic and lexical relations for the verb. The second part discusses the problems associated with the formal description of the verb, as well as solutions elaborated by the team of linguists. The solutions are discussed in three thematic groups: at the level of semantics and pragmatics (polysemy, stylistic diversity, phraseology, the relationship between superordination and subordination), at the level of morphology (aspect, semantic and paradigmatic derivation) and at the level of syntax (reflexivity).
