Summary/Abstract: Over a distance of fifty years the Church in Poland experienced jubilee anniversaries of events fundamental for a 1000-year history of the state - the baptism of Mieszko I. The preparations, all process and proclaimed contents had the same source, but the historical context influenced on the differences between them. First of all, millennium celebrations took place in a spirit of confrontation between the Church and the institution of the state, and can even speak of a specific competition for response in society. However the second jubilee took place in a harmonious cooperation and participation of both entities. Also, events in the ecumenical Church had their importance in the pastoral message during the ceremony. In the first case, it was the Second Vatican Council, and in the second case there were initiated the post-conciliar reforms, taking into account individual documents. It was shown even in the ecumenical aspect. Finally, the situation in Europe after 1989 and the progressive integration process has been visualized in showing the importance of Mieszko baptism for the history of Poland in the history of the continent.
