Summary/Abstract: The concept of automation is presented in the article: historical stages of the development of automation, the meaning of the word “automation”, the spheres which are being automated. Both advantages and disadvantages of the automation as well as reasons for automation are distinguished in this article. The purpose of the article is to evaluate the impact of the automation on the changes of the demand for the labor force in Lithuania. The main purpose was implemented over the questionnaire (the retrospective of a short period). The survey showed that people do not contend with the negative impact of automation that is associated with the decrease of job in their workplaces very often. However, it should be noted that the survey has essential limitations which are described further in the article.
