Summary/Abstract: This article above is an attempt of reflexion on the one of the most famous protagonists in the Church musical activities, on Alexander Archangielski. The Author is concentrating not only on the composer’s way of life or his personality; he is also presenting “mysteries” of the artist’s human development and his brilliant carrier as well. Many spheres of his many-sided activity were an essential element of the Russian culture. Archangielski was generally known not only as a Church conductor or an excellent choir director, but also as a very active community worker, struggling against difficult social conditions and trying to better the situation of contemporary artists. The composer’s life fell on the time regarded as the turning point in the Russian history. New Soviet state proposed another way of development for artists – the way Alexander could not understand and adopt. The illness, he suffered from, for a long time, did not allow him to continue his artistic career or to take up new composer’s plans and initiatives. But the future seemed to be far better. Today Archangielski’s works are presented not only in his native country, but also abroad.
