Summary/Abstract: This article presents an alternative method for calculating the cost effectiveness threshold in the process of health technology assessment (HTA). The method is based on a theoretical model of health function and builds upon the econometric analysis addressing the impact of marginal change in overall NHS expenditure on changes in mortality for the ischemic heart diseases. Results of the analysis indicate that currently used in Poland rigid threshold performance does not reflect the actual costs associated with the improvement of health condition.
