Summary/Abstract: The paper examines the organization of the Sanitary service in the Bulgarian army in the preparation and during the First World War. The organization of Sanitary service in the army during the Balkan wars 1912-1913 and the First World War are compared. The performance of the medical authorities in the WWI and the reasons for their problems are also studied. Some statistical data are analyzed in order to indicate how effective the preliminary organization of the Sanitary service was and to describe the changes made to it in the course of the WWI. The paper is based on new literary and archival sources, which will facilitate the objective study of the history of Bulgarian military medicine in the course of wars for national unification, 1912-1918.
