Summary/Abstract: In the era of a tremendous growth of a ‘non‑existing’ discipline of translation studies and a gradual de‑humanisation of translation in its pragmatic aspect via an extensive use of new technologies, exploring a scholarly controversial, and yet valid concept of “the translator’s intuition” is both risky and relevant. The aim of the study is to address the paradox and analyse the concept of intuition against a few selected TS research models, explicate the latter, and in particular, focus on the well‑known competence models. An overview of their development demonstrates how intuition is an element of creation during the translation process. Going beyond reasonable cognition, it is empirically observable and in such a perspective it provides an interesting insight into the translation process and translator competence.
