Summary/Abstract: John Fowles, one of the most significant contemporary British authors, was well-known for his interest in Jungian psychology, which is why we can encounter the motifs of individuation and projection of archetypes of animus and anima in almost all his novels. The author of this paper defended her doctoral dissertation titled Jungian Motifs in the Novels by John Fowles at the Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade in May 2016, in which she shed some light on psychoanalytic symbols in six of Fowles’ novels, including the first published one, The Collector. As an excerpt from the dissertation, this paper has dealt with the psychology of main characters and Jungian analysis of their inner motives in this, according to many critics, first modern psychological thriller.
