Summary/Abstract: The article examines the words of Persian origin in the Russian language and defines the regularities in semantic assimilation of loanwords in the process of their migration and further functioning in the recipient language. The author reveals four tendencies in the adaptation of Persian loanwords to the semantic structure of the Russian language: maintaining of meaning in monosemic words; narrowing of conceptual field; expansion of semantic sphere; shift of meaning in prototype words. It is shown that in the majority of cases the semantics of Persian loanwords undergo changes, mostly towards the narrowing of their meaning.
