Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the social doctrine of Marsilio of Padua. Italian philosopher had visible position in the contemporary dispute between secular power and spiritual authority, supporting the side of the first institution. He presented various arguments in favor of the settlement of this dispute, reaching into the philosophical tradition, biblical and scholastic. The text also makes the argument that the Marsilius contributed to the development of modern thought, presenting solutions for institutional secularization, ie the separation of the secular state from the church. However, some doctrinal solutions Marsilio were never practical social reception.
