Summary/Abstract: The author of article put the problem of socio-historical origins of capitalism and his early economic ethics. The main thesis of the text are based on the achievements of the German scholar Max Weber. In his main book „The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism” included was a thesis on importance of the Protestant values to capitalism. Such modern virtues as: diligence, saving or rationality (developed under the influence of the Reformation) influenced to the creation of a new capitalist mentality and axiology. It was important to celebrate the act of self-expansion of money and religious approval for enrichment (at the same time the prohibition of consumption). In the text, however, is also included criticism of Max Weber's theses. Attention was drawn to a certain obsolescence and pro-Western his assertions in the rapid growth of Asian countries. In the final section also contains reflections on the Peter Berger's ethics of capitalism – who was follower of Max Weber's achievements
