Summary/Abstract: The testaments are a category of original documents little known and used by the historiography, being a rich source of information and a documentary corpus of fundamental importance for understanding social resorts and mentality of a historical period. These general considerations are fully confirmed by the testament written by Maria Hermeziu on January 15th, 1846, an unpublished document which is the subject of this paper. After a few preliminary remarks on the Gane and Hermeziu families, we proceed a detailed analysis of the testamentʼs contents, while examining some of the most important aspects of this document. Then we review the list of the amounts destined by the testator to the monasteries of Neamţ, Agapia and Văratic, at the church of Fălticeni and Tălpălari church of Iaşi, as well as to her sisters and nieces. The testament ends with a codicil written by Gheorghe Hermeziu, the testatorʼs husband.
