Summary/Abstract: In the syntax of Menella Totoni uThe syntax of Albanian language, the complex sentence”, Arbëria, 2013, the syntactic structure of the Albanian language has been fully treated. This structure in this book has been described in the framework of a semantic approach to the complex sentence. Totoni in this study, and in other studies before this, differently form other scholars uses the term sentence, with which he means a syntactic unit having full intonation and complete meaning. A special emphasis is placed on the semantics of the sentence and on its actualisation in real situations. His concept of the sentence is broad, because it includes the unit composed of many sentences, and the one composed of a single sentence. Differently from other scholars, Totoni uses the structural-semantic criterion for the classification of the sentence. This criterion has made it possible to bring to the fore other factors which participate in the structural and semantic organization of the kinds of complex sentences with subordination. The classification is based on the presence or not of the antecendent, if the subordinated clause is related to it or to the verb of the main clause. Thus he distinguishes two main groups: sentences with accessory words and sentences without accessory words (antecedent). These two main groups are further subdivided.
