BORROWINGS FROM ENGLISH TO ALBANIAN LANGUAGE LEGAL TERMINOLOGY

Summary/Abstract: The addition of terms that have entered from English in the field of law, after the '90s, is related to the addition of new branches of law and other non- linguistic factors that have given English a privileged role by increasing its influence on other languages. The fund of borrowed terms from English includes: 1. intemational terms: petition, motion, resolution, summit, corporation, apartheid, commonwealth, dividend, negotiation, congressman, boycott, lobe that entered before the '90s and others such as: franchising, factoring, trafficking (drugs), coalition , precedent, tender etc. that entered afiter the ’90s. 2. terms from English that name notions and institutions peculiar to Anglo-Saxon world and therefore their presence in language is justified any time we refer to the legal systems of these countries such as boss, cartel, county, Bill of Rights, felonies, Lord Chancellor's Department, Judicature Acts, common laxvyers, civil laxvyers, joint resolution etc. 3. terms borrowed from English that have their Albanian equivalents: raund (zgjedhjesh) - fazë (zgjedhjesh), (kontratë) full time - (kontratë) me kohë të plotë, (kontratë) part time -(kontratë) me kohë të pjesshme, privacy - privatësi, governance - qeverisje, demurrer - mbrojtja, copyright - e drejta e autorit, investigim - hetim, overruiing - anullim, killer - vrasës, serial kille - vrasës serial, standing committees - komisione të përhershme / qëndrueshme, (seancë) hearing - (seancë) dëgjimore, intellectual property - pronësi intelektuale, enxhio (NGO) - organizatë joqeveritare, statue law - e drejta statutore, joint stock company - shoqëri anonime, freehold - e drejta e pronësisë. A group of its own is formed of borrowed terms from English which equivalents are foreign terms themselves that have come into use and have become part of Albanian language lexicon: draft (kushtetues) - projekt (kushtetutë) , staf (i qeverisë) - personel (i qeverisë), barrister - avokat, impeachement - akuzë, inkriminim - akuzë etc.
