Summary/Abstract: I. The terms and expressions of Latin origin which have been reflected in two terminological dictionaries on the field of law, already published, constitute a group of their own within the area of the lexicon of law. There are two reasons that support the use of the Latin terms in the field of law: in order to refer to characteristic institutions that belong to the period of the raise of the Roman law and because of their international character. A certain part of the Latin terms are international ones, and being such, they are used in other languages. There are also other terms that are often used in Latin even though they have already been replaced by Albanian terms. II. Abbreviations as an auxiliary mean that supports the lexicon of law refer to international institutions and signed pacts in the context of the collaboration with them. Basing on an analytic viewpoint, the abbreviations can be classified in two groups: Foreign abbreviations and Albanian ones. The tendency that has been noticed lately, the one that tends to replace the references with their abbreviations, influence by making the communication more difficult. As we find our selves in front of this situation it becomes crucial to avoid abbreviations that throw a useless weight on the system of language, becoming in such a way a serious obstacle for a clear and fluent communication.
