Summary/Abstract: This article looks at the ordering of postnominal phrases in modern spoken Albanian through a pilot study. The participants were 10 adults (gheg and tosk) which were tested through a Grammaticality Judgment Task by using an ordering paradigm of postnominal phrases in Albanian, which has first been brought forth as a complete representational paradigm in this work. This paradigm consists of all the ordering models of postnominal phrases that have been suggested for standard Albanian by previous literature. The results of this experimental work were twofold. First, it was found that speakers differ in their ordering of postnominal phrases in that they only use the exact ordering as in standard Albanian by only 35 % of all the cases (models). Second, this study calls for greater attention to the investigation of spoken language as a crucial component, alongside written language, in understanding not just speakers’ linguistic competence, but also in revising and updating our knowledge of Albanian syntax.
