Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is an overview of the marriages and their meaning in Dibër. There are in focus different forms of marriage, like cases of bigamy, levirate, sororate etc. Marriage is institutional and it has its own norms coming from the ancient period of the human society, passing through changes from time to time, conform the level of society. Through the institute of marriage, the society has expressed the love for life with rites and habits and from this we understand the importance given to this relation. Generally, marriage in the region of Dibra and its surroundings continues to preserve its traditional elements, together with modifications as a consequence of time changes and it is very evident the relation with our ancestors rites as a element that influence in the preservation of the tradition. In this area different forms of marriages have been applied, even though not very often “the main message” in the traditional wedding, is still preserved. The esteem for the institution of marriage has very deep roots and based in the tradition and transmitted into generations.
