POPULATION OF TUZLA SINCE THE 19TH CENTURY TO THE END OF OTTOMAN RULE

Summary/Abstract: Confessional structure of the population of Tuzla, but also Bosnia and Herzegovina since the mid-19th century until the end of the Ottoman rule gradually changed. Changes were made, especially since the time when Serbia gained autonomy with regard to the fact that in the Serbian cities a significant number of Muslim population was banished. In addition, the changes in the structure of the population were influenced by infectious diseases, particularly plague, and economic activities. The above has resulted that the structure of the population of Tuzla, but also Bosnia and Herzegovina, was in constant change during this period in the sense that there has been an increase in population and a decrease in the number of residents of other confession in the total population.
