Summary/Abstract: The reason for this debate was an attempt to get the views of two historians of philosophy of the nature of their own discipline over to the readers of the Cultural History journal. The discussion is focused on the question: What is the nature of philosophy like? For over two decades both academics have engaged in the basic research (translation, analysis and interpretation) of the source literature of ancient philosophical thought. Thus, they step before their students and readers with certain pre-understanding of the nature of their own work. The aim of the debate is to present their understanding of the history of philosophy.
