Summary/Abstract: This paper presents the actions and work of economic organization of the Croatian Peasant Party (HSS) Gospodarska sloga (The economic agreement) in the city of Bjelovar and its surrounding area, during the period from 1935 to 1941. Gospodarska sloga was one of the largest organizations of HSS in Croatia, and it is interesting that the initiative for the establishment of that organization came from Bjelovar. Due to the specific geographic characteristics of Bjelovar region (particularly agricultural and livestock region), Gospodarska sloga put down firm roots here and developed a significant activity, so that according to the number of its members in Bjelovar, it was ranked second in Croatia, right after Karlovac. The activity of Gospodarska sloga in Bjelovar is characterized by persistent and long-lasting struggle for the rights of farmers in market competition, and for the reduction of farmers’ city and state taxes. In Bjelovar area, particularly strong was of the dairy Movement of Gospodarska sloga, which was very successful. It is important to point out that one of the founders and initiators of Gospodarska sloga, Rudolf Bićanić, comes originally from Bjelovar.
