Summary/Abstract: Vasile Voiculescu (1884-1963) is one of the few personalities of the Romanian literature and culture who had the strength of dividing his imagination between two fields of expertise which, at a first glimpse, seem to be quite different: medicine and literature. In fact, beyond the apparent differences, these two areas of knowledge are more interrelated and bound than we even can conceive. They both deal with the human being but from a peculiar point of view. Medicine treat the body and only tangentially the spirit, while the second is endowed with the instruments of probing the deepest corners of the human soul. Vasile Voiculescu managed to equally deal with these two and blended in balanced way. Under the siege of criticism, Voiculescu had the power to renew his literary work all the time, going through poetry, short stories and even a novel. His religiosity that transgresses his literature seems to be the source of his power of renewal. All these features of Voiculescu’s personality make up the portrait of what we call a real humanist.
