Summary/Abstract: Literary canon cannot be considered independent of the aesthetic reality and of a certain historic context. Canon gets shapes on the background of a literary and artistic era, being influenced and influencing, in its turn, society. There are two types of canon which influence each other: literary canon (which seems to be a blend of innovation and tradition in a certain moment in history) and the aesthetic one which precedes literary canon, nourishing it with energy. The relationship between the two is as follows: literary canon receives its sap from the aesthetic one, trying all the time to overcome the latter. The shift in cannon takes place when literary works do not endeavor anymore, when form becomes obsolete and art, in general, does not satisfy its knowledge purpose. The change of canon can be considered an adjustment of literary life to a new social-historical context.
