Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the EU emission trading scheme and its possible impact on the Lithuanian economy. The main aim of the paper is to analyze the problems related with the preparation of the National allocation plan in Lithuania and then based on this analysis to define the effect of this policy measure on the competitiveness of the Lithuanian economy and the GHG emission reduction. The paper discusses the aims of the EU emission trading scheme and the anticipated results of the scheme implementation of in EU and in new member states which do not have problems related with the implementation of the Kyoto commitments.
