Summary/Abstract: The text analyzes the connections between the cognitivist sciences and the hermeneutic philosophy. An example of the theory of understanding developed by Bartosz Brożek which refers to thehermeneutics of Hans-Georg Gadamer shows the convergences and differences between the assumptionsof Brożek’s and Gadamer’s theses. An attempt was made to display the principles of theinterpretative process which are consistent with the achievements of cognitive sciences. They werealso confronted with Gadamer’s ideas. The allegations formed against Gadamer’s hermeneuticsfrom the perspective of cognitive science were reconstructed.
