Summary/Abstract: The family plays a crucial role in a person’s life. All the functions of the family are the source of both the aims the family tries to achieve and the tasks undertaken to meet the needs of family members. A Polish family had a specific role during the period of the partitions of Poland. In that period the survival of the whole nation depended on a properly performed function of the family. It was the magazines targeted at women and families that undertook the task of making the society aware of the role of the family. They pointed to the importance of its proper functioning and warned against the consequences of various dysfunctions. Publicists of women`s magazines wrote most often about the educational, caring, financial, and sexual functions of the family.
