Summary/Abstract: The article presents a chronology of today’s meaning of museum, a form that existed as need and manifestation from the antique until contemporary times. Therefore, there are described the phases and the stages of this institutions by means of the crossed periods, each time stressing upon the essential dimension, that of communication.
