Summary/Abstract: Many features characteristic of the Vanguard art of the 20th century could be traced in the aesthetics of the contemporary theatre. These features having adopted the most extreme expression actualise the revolutionary aspirations of the Vanguard culture and provides the performance an alternative form. But could these radical changes of the contemporary theatre be titled as a new wave of Post- (Neo-) Vanguard art? Having in mind the idea of continuity of Vanguard art esta- blished by Hal Foster, this article presents a contemporary theoretical reflection of Vanguard, the connections between theatrical Vanguard and Neo-Vanguard, draws the perspective of the links between Vanguard and Performative / Postmodern theatre, theatricality and performativeness in the contemporary performance.
