Summary/Abstract: new component in the educational process, increasing the individual adaptive capabilities (also for young people) is the portfolio of information, skills and competences related to creating individual carrier paths. This process should be supported by a specialist called Career Advisor. The new quality in the counselling process largely depends on the advisor that is the subject who is to create it and to shape others to reach it. The changing social reality gave rise to the demand for a new advisor type – for a specialist with high professional qualifications and competences, firm ethics as well as social and general experience, ready for changes and challenges. The advisor should trigger activity and motivation for independent actions and life-long learning, thus supporting human development and understanding the surrounding reality. His or her actions should be projected into the culture and society of the future and into shaping pro-active attitudes. The objective of this work is e.g. to present the multiplicity of career aspects against the contemporary social conditions that is the “world of advantages and disadvantages”. The career advisor should be the key specialist helping young people to understand today’s social and market reality. His/her new competences in working with young people should help the individual create abilities to find one’s place and function in the world today and in the future. This work is an attempt at presenting the new role of the career advisor as a “mentor” introducing an individual into the career path or the road between social inclusion and exclusion which is related to assuming responsibility for one’s own development and fate.
