Summary/Abstract: When analyzing the phenomenon of prostitution, the majority of researchers tend to focus on individuals who provide sex services, while reflections on users of such services are decidedly in minority. In this paper, we attempt at systematizing the knowledge on those who would pay for sex services. We present in more detail some selected results of research which illustrate the scope of prostitution on a global scale, the reasons, as defined by researchers, for using paid sex services as well as the examples of client typologies. The paper has three main parts. Two first parts deal with the clients of adult providers of sex services, and include such factors as the gender of such paying users. The third part examines more in-depth the group of those who use sex services offered by minors.
