FUNCTIONS OF CLOTH AND COSTUME IN MATERNITY AND WEDDING RITUAL SYSTEM (ON FIELD MATERIAL FROM LOVETCH AND TROYAN REGIONS)

Summary/Abstract: This study days is supposed to establish the features of function of costume and cloth in the system of maternity and wedding customs and beleaves. The data are following the ritual action with clothes and cloth - baby's swing, rug, apron, by which are producting imitative actions for physical and spiritual support and help of the woman. They are assumed in folk understandness as woman's in childbirth womb. The material of baby's clothes is significant. The ritual sowing and getting on special costume in wedding ritual system is an action of magic, communicational and social functions of clothes. By putting on of special clothe is functioning the normative action for change in her position. The clothe in customs and believes of "Balkandjii" people in Lovech and Troyan regions are rich of ethnic functions in the system of Bulgarian folk culture.
