Summary/Abstract: An important role in the transformation of rural areas in Poland has played implementation of the Rural Development Plan (RDP) 2004–2006 and 2007–2013. The RDP 2004–2006 and 2007–2013 RDP positioned action related to structural pensions. The main objectives were to provide the revenue to farmers who abandon agricultural activities in the retirement age, reducing the average age of people taking over agricultural activities and improve the agrarian structure. The institution of pensions aims to improve the economic viability of farms and ensure that farmers transferring the holding sufficient source of income after the cessation of such activities. Early retirement is preceded by 10 years of retirement derived from the National Agricultural Insurance Fund (ASIF), which is entitled to a farmer from achieving 65 years. Structural pension scheme aims to accelerate the transformation of generational farms and deepen the mechanism of transfer of land to the economically stronger units.
