Summary/Abstract: The twilight of traditional industry creates the need for looking for answers on directions of social and economic development, in particular in the situation when the growth of service sector does not satisfy the needs of job market and does not guarantee Europe’s satisfactory results in technological change. One of the directions of expansion are creative industries based on prosperous cultural potential which over centuries were the reservoir of forces of progress of the continent. There are favorable conditions for its development in Poland, in particular in light of dynamics of changes that are happening in cities building its metropolitan status. This could be the base not only competitive to the comeback of traditional industry in modern way but also supporting the economy in various ways with creative factor and developed competencies of various implementations. Thereby, also in Polish conditions, we can see the growth of the role of urban centres as creators of the new socio-economic order and the shape of future economy.
