Testimony of Baptism

Summary/Abstract: This article presents the studies of the author on the topics of traditional customs and rituals and beliefs, related to the baptism in Bulgarian traditional culture and its modern manifestations. An attempt was made to trace the influence of ideology and the government institutions on one of the major events in the life of one individual, which can be perceived as a fundamental element of his socialization. The author registers obsolescence, substitution and profanation in not only separated ritual practices but also in essential elements of ritual complex, which show absence of knowledge, understanding and rationalization of baptism as an act of acceptance of identity.
