Summary/Abstract: The objective of this paper is to emphasize Kundera’s fictional mode, his vision of the literary possibilities, his use of the intrusive author in his novels, his aesthetic development, and his insistence on irony. We hope this paper makes a significant contribution to evaluating the direction of Kundera’s aesthetic, his distinction between poetry and prose, his view of language, his vision of the novelistic enterprise, and his position on politics. We argue for a more critical approach to the issues raised in this paper.
