On trust and crisis at sea: social reality of deep-sea vessels’ crews

Summary/Abstract: The authors present the results of their research among Polish seamen working in the multicultural labour milieu of deep-sea merchant vessels’ crews. The research (first stage – qualitative research based on semi-structured interviews and the second stage of quantitative research based on survey of auditorium questionnaire) referred to variousaspects of seamen’s life which have been already discussed for many years in the field of maritime sociology founded by prof. Ludwik Janiszewski. In this article authors focus on analyzing the results which explain the role of trust on board and more precisely – what is the significance of trust in so strictly organized labour milieu as well as of economic crisis and its influence on the declining seaman’s ethos.
