Decapitalization in Poland’s maritime economy

Preliminary concept

Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses the problem of decapitalization in Poland’s maritime economy after the system transformations that were initiated after Jun 1989. It focuses mainly on two components of this economy: ports and shipping but the other sub-sectors are also reviewed. The principle conclusion calls for a necessity to establish a robust and workablesystem of financing, involving all the major contributors; banks, both domestic and foreign, budget sources and private capital. To make this happen the Polish Government would have to create a system of incentives that would encourage such investments.
