Summary/Abstract: Dialogue in the family plays a significant role in shaping family members’ personalities and involving them in social life. The proper development of dialogue may be influenced by many factors e.g. dangers resulting from the randomness of life. In a family of a disabled child additional difficulties occur which may affect the functioning of the family members. The way of perceiving disability depends on one’s role in the family. A disabled child experiences their difficulties differently than their parents or siblings. However, the feeling of isolation may be common for both the child and their family. In that case there is no opportunity for dialogue which would normally be a factor limiting the destructive influence of disability. It is difficult to describe experiences of a family which struggles with the child’s illness. An attempt to assess the quality of dialogue in the family is even more problematic.Too many difficult experiences and emotions may make it impossible to achieve accurate results. Nonetheless, it does not eliminate the need for study of the subject.The research conducted during the period of creative adjustment to disability also seems to be necessary. Such a situation happens in the case of disabled students who decide to study despite their struggle with various limitations and obstacles. The research into the subject makes it possible to present the ways of perceiving the role of dialogue in the family in childhood and adolescence. In the course of time some memories fade away but one becomes aware of their experiences and is able to come to terms with them, which makes it possible to analyse the subject. The analysis will be presented in a pedagogical context. An attempt will be made to present the postulates regarding the process of shaping proper family relationships.
