Summary/Abstract: Preventive care demands certain finances, but they do not necessarily have to be vast. Not everyone can, and not everyone has to provide ideal conditions for the preservation of archives and current records. It is enough to provide a minimum which encompasses adequate storage capacity, ambient conditions, metal shelves and archive boxes. Along with collaboration between institutions, experience exchange, recommendations, expert advice and creative ideas this can often be met with much less effort and investment than normally imagined. The will for the problem to be solved is enough for a start, as well as the courage to make the first move. It is not necessary for the problem to be solved immediately, at once, it can be solved step by step: square meter per square meter, shelf by shelf, box by box. Persistence and endurance is what matters. And the results are big: instead of crammed and damp basements full of damaged archives which will eventually have to be destroyed, we can have a modest but properly arranged depot with adequately stored and healthy archives. The legal frame in the preventive care system exists but it is incomplete. Education of employees in archives and registers on the subject of carrying out the preventive measures is regularly being done, but still in an inadequate amount. Expert supervision of archives and registers is well thought of, it functions and it shows results, and the only problem is the absence of directions which are necessary in case of unconscientious actors. This system is being updated each year but a lot of time will pass by until it is completed. Until then, the preventive care and the destiny of the documentation depends solely on us, the archive employees and the archive employees in registers, on the people engaged in the preservation and protection of archives and current records.
