Summary/Abstract: The contribution highlights new current areas in which the Cyrilo-Methodian patrimony appears to be a fruitful source of inspiration. In response to variously manipulated interpretations of the two Thessalonian brothers and their mission, the author offers an interpretive key in order to allow understanding of the personalities and activities of Saints Cyril and Methodius, which is their sense of spiritual mission. In Europe, which now seems to be losing its identity and future, it is useful to revive the roots from which it grew. In the crisis of leadership personalities within the political and social life, the example of St. Constantine-Cyril is an inspiring one: thorough and a broad classical education, deep sensitivity and understanding the relations and patterns of life, personal generosity. Building on the Russian Slavophiles, such as Vladimir Solovyov, and their messianism, the contribution develops the issue of Slovak history meaning and spiritual interpretation, called “the messianism of burning candle”.
