The Historic and Artistic Value of Religious Ornaments from the Heritage of Monasteries in the Republic of Moldova

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of our scientific approach lies in the presentation of a panoramic picture on religious treasures belonging to monasteries’ heritage on the actual space of the Republic of Moldova. The author takes into discussion the documented pieces on the basis of archive files and field researches certifying the fact that the majority of the monasteries from the targeted territory possessed pieces made from noble (gold, silver) and base metals (brass, tombac, tin, copper), some of them irretrievably lost in the Post World War I years, immediately with the closure of worship places. This extensive compartment of the monastic heritage, with a particular historical and artistic value requires scientific capitalization, protection and promotion.
