Psychological and economic factors in workrelated stress measurement

Summary/Abstract: The present study aims at exploring factors in work-related stress measurement. In the first part, it presents various types of psychological tools used to measure work-related stress and its sources, level, consequences and coping strategies. The usefulness of psychometric values of described questionnaires is assessed. The next part of this article is devoted to the presentation of various economic factors used to measure work-related stress, especially absenteeism, counterproductive behaviours and presenteeism. There are also findings from research studies which used those factors to assess the efficiency of implemented stress management interventions. The last part presents results of the study devoted to measuring work-related stress in some companies in Poland, and also ways of measurement of work-related stress as used in international projects by European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA), European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions (Eurofound) and International Labour Organization (ILO). In conclusion some dilemmas regarding the measurement of work-related stress and discrepancies between theoretical frameworks and organizational practise are discussed, and ways of further development and cooperation are suggested.
