Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper is an attempt at presenting the influence of selected Wroclaw’s shopping malls on their business surroundings – service enterprises. Five shopping malls were selected; each of them presents one of five generations of shopping malls. The research shows that shopping malls are not a direct threat to the functioning of service enterprises located in their vicinity. However, there are other actual threats to the functioning of service enterprises. These are: 1) supermarkets, discount stores, 2) local shopping centres in housing estates basing on supermarkets, 3) old plazas renovated and restored to their old grandeur. Only a small number of the owners of service enterprises indicated at a negative impact of shopping malls on their enterprise. A negative impact of shopping malls is especially discernible in the case of business enterprises that operate in the traditional retail trade.
