Summary/Abstract: The immanent goal of the enterprise is to achieve growth and hence, to increase the value of the company. Achieving this objective in conditions of rapid technological progress and strong competition, requires access to financial capital. Enterprises use a certain hierarchy of funding sources. Medium enterprises’ primary source of external financing are banks. Modern companies rarely use the services of only one bank. Most frequently, they cooperate with several banks. The economic characteristics of the company affects the decision to cooperate with a larger number of banks. The aim of this paper is to verify the determinants of the number of banks cooperating with the company. Among the examined determinants are: the business objectives of the company, the age of the company, and the company’s revenue, employment and type of activity. The quantitative data was collected on a sample of Polish medium-sized enterprises. The estimation was based on a multinomial logit model with non-ordinal categorical data.
